Someone hacked into my account or I see suspicious activities, what should I do?
Why did someone hack in?
The most common causes of hacking are:
- Using the same password in different places.
- Installing a trojan.
- Using scripts containing backdoors or security vulnerabilities.
- Disclosing access to random people who allegedly want to help.
I got hacked, what should I do?
Get a password generator, e.g., this one. In each of the places listed below, use a different, randomly generated password. Don't save passwords in text files, use a password manager built into your browser or a dedicated application, e.g., Keepass.
- Change the password to your email account.
- Set up two-factor authentication (2FA) for your email account.
- Change the password to your ServerProject account.
- Set up 2FA.
- Delete all sub-accounts.
- Change passwords for individual services, such as FTP passwords / administrator passwords on the server, database passwords.
- Delete unnecessary database accounts.
- Delete FTP sub-accounts.
